If you think that, if you are a legal immigrant or a US-born American, then the current immigration backlash doesn’t apply to you, think again.
It’s bad enough that this Administration has made people think that in the name of Homeland Security one’s civil rights must be compromised “for the safety of all,” but to have the offending agency not be publicly accountable for their actions against innocent U.S. citizens just serves as an ominous foreboding of things to come.
Because of this “let’s-get-tough” policy by Homeland Security, our family members and friends who are dark-skinned must carry proof of their citizenship with them at all times.
What’s scary is that a quick errand to the corner grocery store without proper documentation can mean our family members could literally disappear for a few hours, or depending on the backlog of detainees, a few days.
Suddenly, being at the wrong place at the wrong time is going to have a whole new meaning for some of us.
Since, I doubt ICE allows one telephone call to detainees it could be hours of wondering and worrying where our parents, children, husbands, wives, other family members and friends are.
Didn’t you see this coming?
