concerns about the guard

Since my brother signed up for the Texas National Guard, this article caught my attention:

Governors Concerned About Guard Troop Levels
— reported by Click2Houston.com

The nation’s governors are voicing sharp worries for the National Guard troops they share with the federal government.

At the National Governors Association meeting in Des Moines, Iowa, Republican Gov. Mike Huckabee of Arkansas said more attention must be paid to the needs of guardsmen returning from overseas deployments, especially younger members who need to find work.

Both Democrats and Republicans said they’re concerned about recruitment targets, benefits and job prospects. They said changes caused by the huge demands placed on the Guard and Reserves for the war in Iraq need more examination.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty said he worries Guard and Reserves are being strained to an uncomfortable level. More than 250,000 National Guard soldiers and airmen have been mobilized for active duty since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.

One more thing to worry about.
