I always wondered how the names for schools were chosen…
New schools named for Pasadena
— reported by the Pasadena Citizen
Two Pasadena schools are slated to get new names.
According to Pasadena ISD school board member Fred Roberts, there were more than 80 names submitted for consideration in choosing a name for both the Jessup Relief Elementary school, and the Hobby area middle school which will host fifth and sixth graders. The new schools are to be built for Pasadena and opened next fall.

The Jessup Relief elementary will be named after U.S. first lady Laura Bush and will be called Laura Bush Elementary School. It will be the first school in the nation to take Mrs. Bush’s name.
The Hobby Area Middle School, which will serve fifth and sixth graders, will be called the Rick Schneider Intermediate School, after current Pasadena ISD superintendent Rick Schneider.
