Poll Shows Divide Among Parents, Teachers
Parents, Teachers Agree On Need To Keep Good Teachers
— reported by Click2Houston.com
A new poll suggests when it comes to the state of education, parents and teachers can learn something from each other.
The AP-AOL Learning Services Poll found that from discipline to standardized tests to the quality of high schools, parents and teachers often disagree.
In the poll, less than half of parents say student discipline is a serious concern at school. A lot of teachers would scoff at that. Two in three of them call children’s misbehavior a major problem.
On testing, the poll found teachers are much more likely than parents to say standardized exams get too much emphasis. Yet most parents and teachers agree testing has weakened the ability of educators to give individual attention to students.
