Motorola feature turns cell phone into debit card

Motorola Inc. has developed a new cell phone with an “M-Wallet” service that will allow shoppers to buy products by waving a cell phone with an embedded chip over scanners at the cash register, the company said Wednesday.

When complete, Motorola said its “M Wallet” service would be downloadable from cell phone companies’ Web sites and would also work with Palm Pilot personal digital assistants and phones not made by Motorola.
