Tour de Houston

The Second Annual Guaranty Bank Tour de Houston will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2006. From the announcement:

Mayor Bill White joined State Sen. Rodney Ellis, Mayor Pro-Tem Carol Alvarado and title sponsor Guaranty Bank today in announcing the routes for the 2nd annual Guaranty Bank Tour de Houston bicycle ride benefiting Houston parks on Saturday, March 18, 2006.

This event has become a tradition for anyone who wants to come out and have a great ride through our beautiful city. It’s a chance to see our diverse neighborhoods in a fun and different way, said Mayor White. We’re happy to have Guaranty Bank’s support once
again to help keep Houston moving and to keep
improving our parks.

This year’s event will feature a new 70-mile route in addition to the redesigned 20- and 40-mile routes. Mayor White, Senator Ellis, and Mayor Pro-Tem Alvarado, all avid cyclists, will join bike teams from sponsors Guaranty Bank, Silver Eagle Distributors/Michelob Ultra, and Sun & Ski Sports to kick-off the event at 7:30 a.m. for the 70-mile route, 7:45 a.m. for the 40-mile route, and 8:00 a.m. for the 20-mile route.

The Guaranty Bank Tour de Houston will begin downtown near City Hall on McKinney. Parking for participants will be available in lots C and H off Memorial Drive for those vehicles with overhead bike racks, and in the Theater District for all others. Registration and information can be found on the www.tourdehouston.org web site. Registration by mail will be open until Saturday, March 11. Online registration will close at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15. On-site registration will be available on the day of the event in front of the Central Library, located at 500 McKinney. Registration is $25 in advance and $35 the day of the event. Packet pick-ups for registered riders will be posted on the website no later than Wednesday, February 15.
